Local Frederick artist Yemi has his artwork displayed throughout the city. Being a young artist from Nigeria, he moved to the United States (New York) to expand his talent and his artistic journey. He fell in love with America and decided to stay. Starting young, his parents encouraged him to pursue art as his career. More About Yemi
Yemi Fagbohun was born in Ibadan Nigeria to S. I. Fagbohun and J. T. Fagbohun. His father was a well knowncustom men’s tailor, his mother a wedding dress maker.
Yemi came to New York where he attended Pratt Institute and received both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Science in Art and Communications Design. For the years he has been an artist, he has done drawings for more than 100 of the Fortune 500 companies, including: AT&T, American Express, Bacardi Martini, Con-Edison, Fortune Magazine, Pitney Bowes, New York Times, Nynex/Bell Atlantic, Haagen Dazs, Hughes Network Systems, UPS, General Motors, Equitable Insurance, Metropolitan Insurance, Budweiser and so on. Yemi has illustrated several children’s books and products. Yemi has also designed more than 300 postage stamps for countries including; Russia, Azerbaijan, Gambia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Tanzania, the Commonwealth of Dominica, and more. Yemi’s ‘Girl Group’ stamps are a part of the permanent collection of the Rock~N~Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland Ohio.
Yemi has won several illustration awards including ADDY’s and Illustrators Club awards. Yemi has designed more than 200 greeting cards (cards for all occasions including birthday cards, Christmas, kwanzaa etc.) Children’s books and products including scribble pads, birthday cards, chore charts, balloons and mugs for kids, dozens of posters, balloons, calendars, stickers, figurines, plaques, mugs, resort wear etc. Yemi’s designs have been sold in a large number of chain stores and specialty stores across the country (Target, Neiman Marcus, Macy’s, Duane Reade, Linens and Things, etc.) Plus at various resort areas internationally.
Murals and large installations: Courtyard by Marriot lobby Frederick, The Common Market Frederick, all exterior glass, Creekside Plaza building glass walkway mural all exterior glass. Plus various other private homes and offices. The Pillars of Frederick, one of the biggest murals in Maryland at 1280 square feet! And various others.
