Monica Pearce has always been a part of Frederick , a “fredneck” as she fondly calls it. Monica started out in the service industry at the young age of 14, working at the waffle house downtown. She has always found herself in the service industry. She also studied Environmental Science in school as well. Monica’s combined experiences helped her hone in
on her passions for sustainability, service and staying local, and led her to cofound Tenth Ward Distilling Company. She realized that Frederick was lacking a craft liquor scene and wanted to take the leap and start her own business. Tenth Ward Distillery has been open for over 5 months now, specializing in craft whiskey and brandy.
Oddly enough, whiskey is distilled beer and brandy is distilled wine. They source all of their ingredients for the whiskey outside of a farm from Charlestown, West Virginia. For the Brandy they use McCutcheon’s apple products! Monica knows the importance of staying local and supporting her community, so they buy their ingredients close to home.
The name Tenth Ward is a historical reference to the late 1800’s. Frederick’s voting districts were split up into wards, and their distillery is located in the tenth ward. If that wasn’t interesting enough, the tenth ward is considered the more industrial part of town, its pretty fitting.
Tenth Ward offers tours, tastings and amazing craft liquors, all in the heart of Frederick.
