ENJOY THIS EPISODE:
Local entrepreneur makes good.
The story of Kim Dow is as impressive as the two successful businesses that she owns. Kim is a ‘Fredericktonian’ having been raised in Frederick County, graduating from Linganore, attending and graduating from Salisbury and returning to her roots.
Kim started as a graphic designer, combining her love of art and math to help other businesses improve their visual branding. About 8 years ago Kim decided to take the plunge and open her own business, Kalico Design. She continued to help businesses, all the while growing her own.
The success of Kalico, and Kim’s Entrepreneurial spirit led her to start Sass Magazine last year.
You’ve got to listen to the full interview to fully understand what an amazing person and Entrepreneur Kim has become.
From Kalico Design’s website:
Well, we could say that we’re creative, outside-the-box, award-winning graphic designers—and it would all be true. But, let’s face it, there are a lot of talented designers out there!
We could also say that we’re a Green-Certified company with sustainable business practices that focuses on helping our clients promote healthy lifestyles. Because, well, we’re that too.
But, what honestly and ultimately makes us special is something so inherently simple that it is often overlooked and frequently forgotten…ready for it?
We listen to our clients—we allow you to tell us (in your own words) what your goals and challenges are; who your audience is. Then, we use our experience and expertise to work with you to devise a strategic plan and visual brand with these goals, challenges and audiences in mind.
So, yes. We are creative, award-winning, eco-conscious graphic designers. But more importantly, at heart, we are communicators. We are problem solvers. We Are LISTENERS!
From Sass Magazine’s website:
Sass Magazine is a women’s lifestyle and professional magazine geared towards women in the Frederick and Western Maryland regions. But, we’re more than that. We want to be a resource for savvy and sassy women, of all ages, who are more than their careers, more than their families or children, more than their friends … a resource that focuses on THEM! Because let’s be honest, we all work hard, we all love our families, our children, our friends, but more often that not, there is only a little crack of space left for US as women, as individuals. We want to help feed that space.
Sass women enjoy dining out, traveling and shopping. They are passionate about their families, friends and community and are professional, career-oriented individuals. They enjoy visiting local businesses, shopping, trying out the latest restaurants, travelling. But they’re more than that! Sass women also enjoy the unexpected, not-your-typical-girly things. They eat organic. They volunteer. They have tattoos (hidden or in plain view). They ride motorcycles. They have multiple degrees. They’re equally comfortable drinking martinis at a posh club as they are getting a beer at a dive bar. They like football and fashion. They start their own businesses. They’re moms by day and bloggers by night. They likSe adventure. They are always more than what meets the eye. They’re UNIQUE, unexpected, and, well, just plain amazing women. Sassy!
