Like many entrepreneurs, the road has been winding, curvy, up, down, and sideways for entrepreneur Joshua Chernikoff. After graduating with an undergraduate degree from American University and then earning a Master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism, Joshua spent two year’s as a sports broadcaster in beautiful Harrisonburg, Virginia. There, he covered everything from middle school lacrosse to the Washington Redskins.
After a year off from broadcasting and working at the historic Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Joshua got the opportunity to work for the Redskins – a dream come true for the native Washingtonian. While Joshua loved the experience at the Redskins, he was ready to score a touchdown on his own and started a tutoring company, Ashley Tutors. This company was recently sold to LaunchLife.
In 2011, Joshua and his team also began to provide tutoring after school and noticed the market inefficiencies in the many student activities taking place after the final bell. Joshua founded Flex Academies the following year. Today Flex Academies has become the nation’s first turn–key solution that systematically and successfully works with families, PTAs, schools, and vendors. The company currently serves the local Washington community and is planning significant regional and national expansion over the next five years.
More From Flex Academies
Flex Academies was created in 2011 by Joshua Chernikoff. In 2013, Judy Bunnell joined Flex Academies as a partner. Together, they grew the company, and were in more than 40 schools when Judy retired, in October of 2017. Today, Flex Academies serves more than 75 schools in six states. Flex Academies enriched the lives of over 20,000 kids just this year, and partnered with over 200 vendors.
