Jessica McHugh
ENJOY THIS EPISODE:
Jessica McHugh has always been a huge reader. When she was 19 years old, she would go to Walden Books after her minimum wage perfume kiosk job, and read a new book. She loved anything horrific and twisted. She then found herself trying to write short stories fixated on the macabre nature of a horror novel. She admits they weren’t very good, but they were a starting off point for her. She fell in love with writing and never wanted to stop.
Jessica has published several books with several small presses; Post Mortem Press, Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing, Evolved Publishing, just to name a few. She’s currently working with Raw Dog Screaming Press to publish her newest novel which will be coming out next year. In addition to writing, Jessica works with Writetopia Lab to teach creative writing workshops. She wants to inspire children to have a voice and find their creativity. She wants them to realize their stories matter just as much as anyone else’s.

About Jessica McHugh
Born in 1982 and raised in Hampstead, MD, Jessica Brianne McHugh is the youngest of three children. Influenced by two brothers, she grew to love not only things silly and obscene but playful violence as well. Many years were spent in the pursuit of athletic success, winning many trophies and awards for her talents in soccer. But when the girliness started seeping in, she began simultaneously pursuing ballet, tap, jazz, and private dance troupes. The acting bug hit early as well and Jessica joined the prestigious FoolProof acting troupe of Carroll County as well as appeared in several plays including Little Shop of Horrors, the Sound of Music, Love’s Labours Lost, and Into the Woods. She was also a member of the award-winning North Carroll Ensemble show choir and performed at places like Hershey Park and Carnagie Hall. Always an amateur writer, she really began dedicating herself to writing after High School, penning the beginning of her fantasy series “Tales of Dominhydor” at 19 years old. Although the first book “Maladrid” took several years to complete, the sequels “Yven” and “Palaplia” quickly followed along with the a great deal of other stories not related to the Dominhydor series.
Until April 2013, Jessica worked as a Manufacturing Technician in Frederick, MD. She lives with her amazingly supportive husband, Dave. Her novel “Camelot Lost” was released in Sept 2008, and in 2009, she had a novel, “Song of Eidolons”, and a novella, “A Touch of Scarlet”, published. 2010 saw the publication of three novels: “From the Herald’s Wearied Eye”, “The Sky: The World” and the “Maladrid, The Tales of Dominhydor: Book One” In early 2011, the novels “Rabbits in the Garden” and “Yven, The Tales of Dominhydor: Book Two” were published. Later that year, she released “Danny Marble & the Application for Non-Scary Things” and “Palaplia” the Third Dominhydor Book. 2012 saw the publication of the gritty coming of age thriller “PINS,” as well as many short stories. Although she is currently hard at work on revising every thing she’s written prior, she is also completing unfinished works and outlining future novels.
