Cheryle is the owner of Nourishing Abundance where she practices as a board certified, licensed nutritionist and coaches clients on their paths to better health.
Married, with two adult daughters, Cheryle enjoys running, yoga and “everything about food — cooking it, growing it, reading about it.”
There are several benefits of enlisting the assistance of a Nutritionist and Wellness Coach. Cheryle starts us off with the following four:
1. Prevent and/or manage the many symptoms that can be associated with gut leak, such as:
* autoimmune diseases like psoriasis and celiac disease.
* irritable bowel syndrome, gas and/or bloating
* food intolerance and allergies
* thyroid issues
* skin problems like acne, eczema or rosacea
* mood swings
* hormonal imbalances
* chronic fatigue
* ADD, ADHD
“Eighty percent of your immune system is in your gut,” explains Cheryle.
2. Learn how to improve and maintain digestive health and keep the immune system healthy. Stress balance is essential.
Cheryle reminds us that “digestion is a parasympathetic response system. It requires rest and relaxation. It requires hydration and exercise.”
3. Learn how to balance gut bacteria. Healthy bacteria enhances the absorption of nutrients and fortifies the immune system. A stronger immune system means better health!
4. Learn to select beneficial, healthy, nutritional foods.
Cheryle will walk you through the entire process of identifying, selecting and preparing the right foods for your particular health needs. She’ll add delicious recipes, too. And, if you need more direction, she’ll even go food shopping with you!
Cheryle grew up in Louisiana where she dreamed of becoming an obstetrician. Unable to afford medical school, she decided to first become a computer programmer so she could put money away for future enrollment.
That plan changed when Cheryle discovered that she really loved programming. She stuck with it for twenty-five years. Cheryle’s programming job required a long commute each day. Then, determined to always be available to her kids, she became an exhausted Super Mom.
“I was coaching. I was volunteering. I was going everywhere. If there was something they wanted to do that we couldn’t find..like Youth Group…I started it!”
Family Health Issues Renewed The Passion To Enter The Healthcare System
When her four-year-old daughter was having skin and digestive issues, worry robbed Cheryle of more much-needed sleep. She soon began experiencing physical issues of her own.
Being a driven problem-solver led her to conduct lots of research to put her family back on the path to wellness. She learned about the relationship between nutrition and various conditions. She not only put her own family back on the path to wellness but she also shared her intense knowledge with friends and neighbors who had symptoms related to nutrition.
Years later, when the nest became empty, Cheryle decided to go back to school on weekends for her Masters in Nutrition & Integrative Health while continuing to work full time. After an internship that required a thousand hours of clinicals and the passing of board exams for licensure, she was ready to launch Nourishing Abundance in Frederick.
As The Owner Of Nourishing Abundance, What Advice Would Cheryle Give To Her Former Self?
“Know your ‘why’ and stick to it!” I got into this because I wanted to teach people how to be healthy. In order to do my clinicals and become board certified, I had to spend a lot of time in conditions. That’s how I wound up dealing with auto-immune disease, lyme disease and..it took me on a path that got me focused on disease as opposed to wellness.”
“I really want to get back to wellness because if we can stop people from getting sick, then they don’t lose their life. So, my ‘why’ was wellness. I spent a couple of years in sickness. Now, I want to go backwards and focus on wellness. I don’t want people to get sick. I want to teach them how to stay healthy.”
“If you’re having GI issues right now, it means you’re already on the road to getting sick. You’re there. You have an opportunity to fix it so you shouldn’t mask it. You need to slow down and let’s fix it now.”
Make The Effort To Take Care Of Yourself!
For all those who take care of others, or their jobs, before taking care of themselves and aren’t always sure if they’re worth giving attention to themselves, Cheryle has this important message —
“Not only are you worth it, but it’s necessary. Life is a gift – a HUGE gift. Every day that we wake up breathing, it’s a gift. So, we actually have to take care of that gift.”
And, for those who worry about being selfish, Cheryle continues, “It’s not selfish. Take care of yourself and it’ll explode out into all of these benefits for all of these people that you think you’re caring for. You’ll show up so much better in this world.”
