Aleena has been claiming Maryland as her home turf for more than a decade. This Louisiana native moved here in 2002 and Frederick’s charm keeps her here. She really likes this area.
“I don’t miss the mosquitoes,” she shared. “The bugs here aren’t nearly as bad as they are back home.” What she misses about her southern days might not be what you’d guess. “I’m enjoying the warmer weather. I do miss the warm, muggy summers!”
Aleena attended a small, two-year campus at LSU and left there with a business degree. She then moved on to the University of Maryland and earned a two-year degree in Equine Business Management.
Hands-On Learning Is A Great Teacher
She had been a little concerned about moving from a smaller campus to a larger one that was situated in a big area but it turned out to be a great experience. “I really loved the Agricultural Department. There were a lot of really nice teachers. I felt like it was a nice, small community.”
Aleena continued, “There’s a farm on campus and you can get a lot of hands-on experience. I always wanted to work with horses when I was a little girl. I was never able to take lessons, or even touch a horse really, until I started going to school.”
She recalls being a 23-year-old who thought it was fantastic to have the opportunity to go to school AND work with horses; the ideal combination! And, it didn’t end there. Aleena also learned “how to drive tractors, how to back up trailers, just all of that hands-on stuff! It was just fantastic!”
Learning About Essential Oils Is Hands-On, Too!
“I was a certified Pharmacy Technician for the last eight years. I was a skeptic like everybody else is when they get into these things because it has a tendency to sound too good to be true,” said Aleena.
“Coming from Pharmacy, I see the benefits of drugs – over the counter prescriptions and in the hospital – and seeing the power modern medicine can give to cure people.” But, remember, this gal favors the involved, hands-on approach to life.
While seeing the benefit in medications, Aleena wants to have a little more control and power in her own house “to combat the things that come at your family as far as health and wellness is concerned and maybe prevent the need to go to the doctor more often.”
“None of my kids have been hospitalized for anything severe. So, I like the idea that I can take control and have another option that I didn’t necessarily think that I had.” She admits, “I used to think that drugs were the only way and the only option.”
Today, her thinking has taken a turn. “Essential Oils have convinced me otherwise, just by the proof that I see by utilizing it in our house; especially with our kids!”
Aleena, Mike and A Growing Frederick Family
Aleena’s husband, Mike, was on Maryland’s football team for his Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Years. They have three kids. Their son Jackson, 4, will be pre-K next year and they have identical twin girls, Emma and Claire, 2.
Jackson’s room is ‘off limits’ to the girls already, so he can have his own personal space that they can’t invade. But don’t let that fool you. He has the ‘big brother’ instinct that makes him very protective in public, if any other kids seem to be bothering the girls.
As for the twins, Aleena notes “They’re completely different…night and day!” She shares the interesting fact that they switch their likes and personalities, too! “As soon as I feel like I’ve got them pinned down, they change on me! They switch! One becomes a talker and the other never says anything!”
She also observes that there doesn’t seem to be any ‘twin language’ going on. If mother is clueless, so is one of the twins. They do, however, remind Aleena that she has more to learn about essential oils. “They’re going through a biting stage and I haven’t found an oil to stop it yet!”
Aleena wasn’t interested in selling the oils initially. However, she used them and saw a huge difference in her kids. She bought more oils and tried more things.
Knowledge Of Such A Great Product Line Deserves To Be Shared
Aleena isn’t the ‘pushy salesperson’ type. But, she found herself so excited about the oils that she couldn’t stop talking about them. She kept raving about the wonderful benefits of using them!
Around Christmas time, Aleena figured she’d give it a try for the first six months of this year (2015) and see what happened. She sat down with Mike to discuss the logistics of starting from the ground up.
“You need supplies; you need target marketing; you have to write a business plan and project how long it’s going to take to get back what you’re putting in.”
Aleena also considered the time that it would take away from the family. It takes time to host parties and hold classes; that’s the way direct sales order companies’ work. It’s similar to Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, etc.
People typically attend a party to learn about the product first hand. They have the opportunity to try, touch and smell the oils. They can learn all about how to use them. An order can be placed at that time or later on.
Aleena Trusts dōTERRA Essential Oils For Use By The Entire Family
There are other brands of Essential Oils on the market but they don’t all have the quality or the potency that has made dōTERRA so successful. Aleena knows that “dōTERRA is a company that provides high-quality, certified, pure, therapeutic grade (CPTG) Essential Oils.”
The company got its start in May of 2008 – just 7 years ago. The phenomenal success speaks loud and clear about the effectiveness of their products. By December of that same year, dōTERRA reached its first million in sales. One year later, it reached that figure in a month!
Actually, it’s now a screaming success as sales hit above $1 million in a single day! It’s largely due to their development of an industry standard for CPTG. They’re responsible for setting the bar very, VERY high.
Essential Oils don’t make the top grade unless they are pure, natural and free from artificial additives. They have to be totally void of any contaminants or pesticides. Following all of the stringent guidelines results in the safest products for you and your family.
“They do 3rd party testing. They outsource the plants to the native regions. Lavender comes from France, even though it can be grown in other regions of the world, because that’s considered the place of origin for that particular plant.”
Much care is given to ensure the right species of plants are grown in the most ideal conditions. Aleena compares the process to the growing of wheat and corn in Maryland and considers all that goes into producing the best crop. This includes factors like weather, topography and so much more.
“When the plant matures, it’s harvested and distilled by growers who have been doing this for several generations,” Aleena points out. “dōTERRA uses locals around the world to do the planting, to do the harvesting and to do the distilling.”
Reap The Benefits Of dōTERRA Essential Oils
Aleena defines essential oils as “basically, a plant’s natural aromatic compound that can be derived from the oil of the plant to be utilized for our personal use just as the plant would use them.”
They help the plants to fight off their own infections, bacteria, viruses, etc., and they can do the same for us. “Our bodies have a certain frequency to them. Plants are like the next level down when you’re talking the cellular or molecular level… Our bodies recognize plant material since it’s so close to our chemistry.”
Aleena goes on to compare the use of dōTERRA Essential Oils with drugs. “When I put an over-the counter drug into my body, most pharmaceuticals are synthetic; man made. The body does recognize some of those elements, but not all of them. That’s why side effects can sometimes come about.”
That’s not the case with dōTERRA Essential Oils. “The body knows exactly what they are and what to do with them; how to utilize what it needs and get rid of wha tit doesn’t need very easily. There’s essentially no real side effects problem that comes along with these essential oils.”
Essential Oils Can Be Used In Three Ways
* Aromatically – Most people are familiar with this method; it’s what aromatherapy is all about. “You can rub the oil in your hand and smell it. You can smell it straight out of the bottle. You can use a diffuser,” Aleena advises. “There are a lot of benefits to aromatherapy.”
* Topically – Rub the essential oil directly onto your body.
* Ingestion – CPTG oils are deemed safe to use in proper doses and amounts. However, Aleena cautions “Not all essential oils are safe to ingest.” This includes some of the dōTERRA oils. She continues, “Most of our oils, with the exception of some of the aromatic oils, can be taken internally.”
Which Application Method Is The Best One To Use?
Determining the best method of applying the essential oils is based upon the purpose for using it or “what you’re trying to get over”, as Aleena puts it. The oil that she uses for digestive purposes can be used internally or topically. Since she knows that it works just as well when it’s put n her skin, she just rubs some on her belly.
Age is also taken into consideration. “It’s not recommended for kids under the age of 6 to take internally. So, most of the time, I use most of the oils on my children topically. I find it to be just as effective, with some exceptions.”
“For instance,” she continues, “during the winter, we were combating some viruses. I did find that taking some of the oils internally, I improved faster than the kids did when I was just rubbing it on their feet.” Yes, you read that correctly…on their feet!
There’s a perfectly good reason for applying the oils to the feet and Aleena doesn’t hesitate to share it. “The bottoms of the feet contain the most pores per square inch on the body. So, it’s one of the fastest places where the oils can be absorbed into the body and into the bloodstream.”
dōTERRA CPTG Essential Oils Are Safe To Use On Kids Of All Ages
“When I use them on my children, I know that I don’t need to be concerned about their health. I know it’s completely safe and it’s not going to harm them, even as young as they are.” Aleena has used these top grade essential oils on her kids as early as 4 months of age.
She shares a truth that most parents have concerns about, when it comes to medicine and young children. “There are almost no medications that can be given to children under the age of 4 for common ailments without being concerned about possible side effects and what it might do to a child so young.”
The oils can be used as an alleviation measure. “When my kids eat a lot of baked beans, I know that’s going to cause their stomachs to be upset. It’s going to cause gas issues.” Aleena rubs oil on their tummies to lessen the consequences.
dōTERRA Oils can be taken every day for conditions like seasonal allergies. When she was pregnant, and again when she was nursing her kids, Aleena couldn’t take allergy medications. She felt like there was nothing safe to take during those times.
Then, she had the logical follow-up question that most have asked at one time or another. If it’s not safe to take those medications when she’s pregnant or nursing, is it safe to take them when she isn’t? And, should those drugs be given to kids for their seasonal allergies?
She’s now equipped with a safe product. Lavender, lemon and peppermint oil taken internally by adults and applied topically to the kids every day are all that’s needed to help the whole family with seasonal allergies.
“The oils support your body’s immune system; they support the wellness of the body. They support the body to react in a healthy way rather than have some of your negative results.”
Aleena Offers Free Samples From Her Own Stock When Available
The buying process is rather simple. You don’t have to attend a party. Aleena makes herself available for ‘one on one’ consultations to discuss any health concerns. The corresponding essential oils are recommended based upon the symptoms.
“I do give free samples of any oils that I personally have in my own stock to let people try things out and kind of see for themselves.” She’s also prepared to help those who prefer to jump right into membership status for cheaper wholesale pricing or a reduced membership rate.
“I’ve had some people who are just ready to jump on in and buy a kit. There are kits with the ten most popular oils that combat any thousands of different ailments that you may have. They know they want to do this.”
Aleena’s enthusiasm is catching! “They want the kit; they want to become a member; they want the cheaper pricing. I can sign them up and we can do that as well.”
It’s Okay To Start Slow…Learn & Grow
“There’s a lot of information on the Internet. dōTERRA has several sites where you can look up your health concern and see what oils they recommend.”
Aleena takes it beyond treating symptoms. “We even have a blog where I’ve started making our own hand sanitizer, our own soaps and lotions, and kid’s bath stuff! That was never something that I thought I was going to get into!”
Aleena’s knowledge of essential oils is on-going. “There were a lot of things I didn’t know about the homeopathic world. I started really slow, getting just one or two for particular ailments, tried them out to see how they worked for me. Then I slowly, gradually increased the amount of oils that I had for the different health concerns that I wanted to treat.”
Having a dōTERRA Wellness Advocate to guide you and show you and show you a little information at a time can be the best approach. “I really enjoy talking with people and giving people more information. It can be very overwhelming. There’s so much information that it can be overload.”
“Start slow, do your research, read what you can and contact me with any questions or concerns. Little ones tend to take a lot of concentration and focus out of your brain during the day, so I’d say start slow…”
And, if anyone knows which essential oil or blend will stop 2-year-old twins from biting, please contact Aleena ASAP!
